Billing period
Calculated in your browser. Nothing you enter leaves this page.
U.S. dollar seat rates reviewed October 28, 2026. Annual-billing rates are monthly equivalents, with the full annual seat charge billed for the year. Monthly-billing rates use the monthly subscription offer. Examples below exclude taxes, additional credits and API charges.
| Seat or plan | Annual billing: per user/month | Billing terms | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Standard | US$20 | Annual billing | Shared workspace with included usage limits |
| Business Premium | US$100 | Annual billing | Higher included usage; can mix with Standard |
| Enterprise | Contact Sales for annual pricing | Contract-specific | Ask Sales for seat, usage and commitment terms |

Check the seat count and the work that needs it
Business Standard and Premium both cover ChatGPT and Codex. OpenAI describes Premium as providing five times Standard usage, without the five-hour usage limit. That does not mean unlimited activity across every feature.

For Business workspaces created from August 24, 2026, the maximum is 200 paid Standard and Premium seats combined, including unassigned seats. Earlier workspaces retain their previous limit. A 250-person firm needing a license for everyone should therefore check Enterprise eligibility instead of assuming a new Business subscription can cover the whole firm.

List the people who need access and the work each will perform. Start the comparison with those named users. A firm headcount and a justified paid-seat count are separate inputs. Review higher-capacity seats against observed needs before assigning the same tier to everyone.
Separate three different cost records
- Seat subscription: the purchased Standard and Premium capacity.
- Workspace credits: extra eligible usage beyond included allowances, where enabled.
- API platform: separately billed development or production usage. Business does not include API usage, and API credits do not transfer to workspace billing.
Zero recorded workspace-credit usage is not proof that a seat is idle: included usage can occur before credits are consumed.

Record each billing account, owner, payment source and spending control separately. Keep both actual invoices and any budget ceiling. A ceiling is a control setting; it is not a forecast of the next invoice.
Illustrative example: a mixed 25-seat workspace
Annual billing: (20 x US$20 + 5 x US$100) x 12 = US$10,800 for an annual commitment.
Assume a hypothetical firm buys 20 Standard and five Premium seats, holds that mix for a full year and purchases no extra usage.
- Annual billing: (20 × US$20 + 5 × US$100) × 12 = US$10,800 for the year.
- Monthly billing: 20 × US$25 + 5 × US$125 = US$1,125 per month, or US$13,500 over 12 unchanged months.
The US$2,700 arithmetic difference assumes the same seat mix and current rates throughout. It is not a savings forecast. The annual option also commits the purchase for longer; a shorter project or changing headcount can alter the decision.
How to check your ChatGPT Business bill
OpenAI bills purchased seats even when they are unassigned. Adding capacity triggers a prorated charge; a scheduled reduction takes effect at the next billing cycle. Removing a person does not by itself reduce the paid seat count.

- Reconcile the invoice with purchased, assigned and genuinely needed seats.
- Check the next renewal date and the date a requested reduction will take effect.
- Review extra-credit settings and API invoices independently.
- Record the approving person, action and confirmation in your decision record.
For Enterprise, get the actual order form. OpenAI supports different contracted billing models, including credit-based arrangements and eligible token-based agreements. Do not apply the Business table or an assumed Enterprise seat minimum to that quote.

Questions before you buy
Is ChatGPT Team a separate purchase?
No. OpenAI renamed Team to Business in August 2025. Match the vendor account and invoice before treating an old Team label as another subscription.

Can I mix Standard and Premium seats?
Yes. The workspace can contain both types, with one subscription billing cadence. Use the actual mix when estimating the commitment.

Does buying Premium remove the need to review extra usage?
No. Check the relevant allowance and any enabled credit spending. Higher included usage and permission to buy more usage are different decisions.

Should every employee receive a paid seat?
Build that decision from assigned work, access requirements and evidence from a pilot. Do not use employee count alone as the purchasing rule.
Turn the price into a review decision
For a U.S. professional-service firm with 10 to 250 people, start with one invoice and one upcoming renewal. Use the free AI Renewal Checklist to work through the review, with no signup. Keep the evidence and decision in your own records or the free review templates.
Read AI seat versus usage pricing to separate fixed commitments from variable charges. Compare AI subscription review options if you are choosing a spreadsheet, AccruePilot or connected software. Compare Copilot versus ChatGPT cost when Microsoft 365 is already part of the budget.
The AccruePilot AI Spend Control System is US$59 once for a local browser Control Center, editable Excel workbook and 12-page field guide. You supply and maintain the records. It does not discover accounts, enforce vendor budgets or cancel subscriptions.
